Oiled Finishes

Aged brasses and coppers, which are left unlacquered, are treated with an oiled finish. These finishes are designed to age naturally and copper and brass will do, tarnishing and dullening over time. They gradually becoming darker if left untouched, and gradually becoming lighter where handled more.

To maintain oiled brasses and coppers, we recommend to apply any oil to a soft cloth and wipe over the plated part before removing any excess oil.

Avoid any harsh abrasives, acids, alcohol and vinegars.

Lacquered Finishes

Astor apply a 2 pac clear automotive lacquer and it’s important to bare this in mind.

  • Do NOT use harsh abrasives.
  • Clean with a soft damp cloth or with mild detergents.
  • For the more stubborn spills use Mineral Turpentine.
  • Avoid any harsh abrasives, thinners & glass cleaners.

Chrome Finishes

Remove dust with a soft cloth routinely. When necessary, clean with mild soap & detergents always using a soft cloth. Soft metal polishers are also suitable cleaning agents for all chrome finishes. Silicone based household cleaners can also be used. Avoid any harsh abrasives and scotch-brite pads.

If handled with care, Astor’s chrome finishes can be maintained for many years.
